From watching his father excel as a German patent attorney, Alexander R. Schlee’s early exposure to the profession inspired him to follow in his father’s footsteps. Today, he is highly regarded for his three-decades-long career with a legal specialization in intellectual property rights. At the start of his endeavors, Mr. Schlee worked as a design engineer for Ford-Werke GmbH, Staatliche Materialprüfungsanstalt Darmstadt und Institut für Werkstoffkunde and Gernsheimer Armaturenfabrik & Metallgiesserei GmbH between 1983 and 1987. He then pursued an education at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, where he obtained the equivalent of a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1987.
Following obtaining his degree, Mr. Schlee joined the law firm of Viering, Jentschura and Partners as a patent engineer in Germany in 1988. He later progressed within the firm as a patent attorney associate from 1991 to 1994 and as a partner from 1994 to 2006, while concurrently founding and serving as a managing partner at its subsidiary company in Los Angeles, California from 2000 until 2006, which sparked his involvement in intellectual property law related non-profit organizations. Since 2006, he has excelled as the founder and owner of Schlee Intellectual Property International PC.
Notably, Mr. Schlee has been licensed to practice as a German, European and United States patent attorney, as well as an attorney-at-law in the state of California. Upon reflection, he attributes his success to his commitment to delivering high-quality work at a fair price. He also attributes his success to the connections he has made within the IP field, in particular through his engagement in non-profit professional organizations, where he has also been fortunate to work with great lawyers while holding leadership positions.
To remain abreast of his field, Mr. Schlee has remained affiliated with the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Orange County Intellectual Property Law Association, the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association, the State Bar of California, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, of which he has served as president. Additionally, he maintains membership with Deutscher Verband der Patentingenieure und Patentassessoren and the German American Business Association. Looking toward the future, Mr. Schlee aspires to continue providing superlative service to his clients and hopes to continue expanding the scope of his practice.
